Why are we doing this......?
This is a very personal fundraiser for us as last February, my Mum had to be placed into a Care Home due to late stage dementia.
After my Dad died in 2008, my Mum came and lived with us for the last 16 years and was a highly intelligent Lady. Full of fun, life & laughter. She attended Sequence dancing twice a week and memorised all the complicated dance scripts.
She regularly joined us when we were showing our Dogs at Championship shows across the UK and participated in helping us train the youngsters.
Her life was the dogs and in particular Papillons with her last one being wonderful Josie.
During Covid lockdown we noticed a slight change in her where she was becoming forgetful and this gradually became worse.
She was then diagnosed with dementia by the Doctor and started treatment to slow the process down. Unfortunately, as yet there is NO CURE!
My Mum deteriorated very quickly and by 2023 she required full time care from both Alasdair & myself.
We thought we could cope with the challenges that caring for a late stage dementia sufferer brings.......how wrong were we.
2023 was particularly hard due to Alasdair also having gallbladder issues which meant frequent hospital visits, treatments and stays, eventually resulting in the gallbladder removal, the discovery of remaining stones etc.....it was an epic saga to say the least.
All the while dealing with my Mum and trying to run the Photography business, I became unable to cope and lost so much weight with the worry.
Forward to January 2024, the Dementia team from the Social Work Dept, stepped in and found an emergency placement for my Mum.
I felt incredibly guilty as the plan was for my Mum to have her last days in her own bed, just as she had cared for her own Mum, my Grandma.
However, a year has passed and visiting her I can see how much happier she is and I know that she is receiving the care and nursing required.
She celebrated her 92nd birthday in February and she is really looking wonderful. Still has a smile on her face and the Nurses all love her.
Dementia is such a cruel disease not only for the sufferer but for the family & carers alike.

What are we doing......?
We wanted to give something back and try and, in some small way raise money for Alzheimer Scotland.
Our target amount will be £12,500 and will go to help train Dogs to help dementia sufferers and their families and also to help Alzheimer
Scotland support other families like ours whose lives have been impacted by dementia..
Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Their aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone.
They provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, they campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research.
The only way we knew how to raise funds for causes was via our very popular Catchathon events and since it's conception back in 2019, we have raised nearly £30,000 for Breed Rescues.
However, we wanted to offer something slightly different to our famous 'cheese' throwing events...................and as usual, Alasdair came up trumps.
